
Description
The Schwarzbeck BBV 9745 is a general-purpose broadband preamplifier covering 9 kHz to 2 GHz, designed to deliver high gain and low internal noise for EMC radiated emissions measurements against very low limits. With a typical gain of 30 dB, amplitude flatness of less than ±3 dB, and a noise figure of 2.5 dB at 1 GHz, the BBV 9745 makes overall system noise nearly independent of downstream components — including cables and the receiver — making it particularly effective when connected directly to the antenna at the measurement site.
The amplifier uses a two-stage design where the first stage employs an ESD-protected MMIC to prevent damage from unintentional electrostatic discharge during antenna cable connections. Despite this protection, coaxial cables should still be discharged before connection as an essential precaution to protect the sensitive semiconductor structures operating at microwave frequencies. Key specifications include a 1 dB input compression point of greater than -20 dBm (87 dBµV) and input/output VSWR of less than 2:1.
Power supply is straightforward thanks to a built-in voltage regulator — any standard +12 VDC wall plug supply at 120 mA can be used without additional conditioning. An internal protection circuit slows the rising and falling edges of the supply voltage to protect internal components and the connected receiver from voltage spikes. The compact aluminum enclosure measures 82 × 38 × 27 mm (overall) with a housing block of 42 × 35 × 27 mm, and weighs 150 g. Operating temperature range is -10°C to +60°C.
