About
Ente Certificazione Macchine, usually abbreviated ECM, operates from Via Ca' Bella at Castello di Serravalle in the Valsamoggia municipality west of Bologna, and combines a notified body with an accredited test laboratory. It is EU Notified Body number 1282, authorised for conformity assessment and product certification under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the Outdoor Noise Directive 2000/14/EC and the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, and is additionally authorised by the Italian Ministry of Health as a notified body for the Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745, retaining surveillance responsibility for devices it certified under the preceding Medical Device Directive. Its testing laboratory is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 - unusually, not by ACCREDIA but by Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation of the United States, under accreditation number 121697 and certificate L23-821 - and it is separately accredited by ACCREDIA to ISO/IEC 17021-1 as a certification body for EN ISO 13485 medical device quality systems. The laboratory is built around a semi-anechoic chamber for EMC testing, and the surrounding scope is distinctly machinery-oriented: electrical safety, IP ingress protection, mechanical stability, vibration, the ISO 14120 impact test on machine guards, IEC/EN 60601 electromedical testing, performance measurement, debug activity and research and development support. ECM is also a qualified private body for periodic verification of work equipment under Italian Legislative Decree 81/2008. Note that ECM publishes a warning on its own site about third parties misusing its name and certificates, so verify any certificate directly with ECM or via the European Commission's NANDO database. Specialisations are machinery directive certification, machine guard and mechanical safety testing, electromedical devices, and combined EMC with machinery conformity assessment.
