Comlab Telecommunications Inc. is a private company founded in 1984 by professors and engineers from the Electrical Engineering department of Laval University, with its head office, R&D laboratories, and production facilities located in Quebec City, Canada. Comlab operates its own EMC lab primarily to ensure all of its own products operate safely and reliably in hostile RF and ESD environments, with this EMC capability also made available to outside companies on a consulting basis. Element's Boucherville laboratory is an EMC/EMI and environmental testing facility located in Boucherville, Quebec, just outside Montreal. RF emissions testing covers 30 Hz to 40 GHz, and radiated susceptibility testing reaches up to 30 V/m across a frequency range of 10 kHz to 18 GHz. The lab serves manufacturers of consumer electronics, laboratory equipment, industrial equipment, medical devices, automotive components, and airborne equipment. In-field testing is also available for large equipment such as vehicles. The full suite of EMC tests includes radiated and conducted emissions, harmonic currents, voltage flicker, ESD, radiated RF immunity, EFT/burst, surge, conducted disturbances, pulse magnetic field, damped oscillatory magnetic field and wave, voltage dips and interruptions, common mode disturbances, ripple on DC input, and DC input power port immunity. The lab's standards coverage is broad, spanning FCC Part 15 and 18, ICES-001/003, CISPR 11/12/14/15/22/32, the EN 55000 and EN/IEC 61000 series, IEC 60601-1-2 for medical devices, IEC 61326 for measurement equipment, automotive standards (ISO 10605, ISO 11452, GM and Chrysler specs), aerospace standards (RTCA DO-160), military standards (MIL-STD-167/202/331/810/833), railway standards (IEC 61373), and Telcordia GR standards for telecommunications. Beyond EMC, the Boucherville facility offers environmental simulation testing including vibration, shock, acceleration, drop testing, thermal cycling, humidity, salt spray (ASTM B117), and accelerated aging — serving aerospace, defense, and telecom clients who need products qualified to DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 requirements.
