About
TUV SUD America's New Brighton site on 14th Street NW, in the northern Twin Cities suburbs of Minnesota, is the group's primary medical device and battery testing hub for the Americas and exceeds 55,000 square feet - a 36,000 square foot test facility extended in 2022 by a 20,000 square foot laboratory wing built for biological, chemical and MRI safety work. For EMC the central asset is a 10-metre chamber placed at ground-floor level behind an oversized doorway, so vehicles and large industrial equipment roll in rather than needing a lift, and it is paired with a full vehicle dynamometer and a Mauro TT5.0-7t turntable of 5 metres diameter rated for 7 tonnes - a combination that puts complete vehicle-level EMC within reach, not only component testing. That automotive line runs to CISPR 25, the ISO 11452 series and UN-ECE Regulation 10, and to the OEM specifications that matter in North America including GM's GMW3097 and GMW3172 and Ford's FMC1278, serving GM, Ford, Stellantis and JLR directly. The site has offered battery and battery charger testing in North America since 2009, covering electrical safety, performance, reliability and environmental durability. Its medical practice is unusually complete: electrical safety and EMC to IEC 60601-1 and 60601-1-2, an A2LA-accredited MRI safety laboratory added in 2022 that tests at both 1.5 T and 3 T for RF-induced heating, magnetically induced force and torque and image artifact and produces the resulting device labelling, biocompatibility across the full ISO 10993 range, sterilization validation by vaporized hydrogen peroxide, ethylene oxide and steam, reusable device cleaning and disinfection validation, sterile packaging and transport simulation, and cybersecurity and risk assessment. Accreditations and recognitions are OSHA NRTL, A2LA to ISO/IEC 17025 for both testing and calibration, IECEE CB Testing Laboratory status, FDA ASCA participation, and FCC-recognised Telecommunication Certification Body designation US1148. Specialisations are vehicle-level and component automotive EMC, MRI safety, medical device EMC with biocompatibility and sterilization under one roof, and battery and charger testing.
