Located on Florida's Space Coast, the 20,000-square-foot facility was opened in 2018 as a $2 million investment consolidating two smaller Element labs in Melbourne and transferring environmental equipment from the company's Jupiter, Florida location. The lab traces its roots to TÜV SÜD Melbourne, acquired by Element in 2017. The facility houses three EMI chambers and over 50 pieces of test equipment. EMI/EMC testing capabilities include radiated susceptibility up to approximately 200 V/m across 10 kHz to 40 GHz, conducted emissions and susceptibility, radiated emissions, indirect lightning testing (single stroke, multiple stroke, multiple burst to Level 3 per RTCA DO-160 Section 22), electrical power characteristics testing to MIL-STD-704 and DO-160 Section 16, and ESD testing. The lab also offers reverberation chamber testing and direct illumination HIRF (High Intensity Radiated Fields) — advanced capabilities demanded by modern aerospace programs for evaluating equipment survivability in severe electromagnetic environments. Environmental simulation and dynamics capabilities are equally extensive, covering HALT, vibration testing (including wind-milling vibration and 3 kHz high-g vibration), mechanical shock, thermal cycling, humidity, solar radiation, altitude simulation, corrosion and salt fog, waterproofness, icing, sand and dust exposure, and explosion proofness testing.
