About
Element's Rockford laboratory occupies an 83,000 square foot facility on South Central Avenue in Rockford, Illinois, and holds the highest field-strength capability of any laboratory in this directory: a high-field reverberation chamber generating in excess of 22,000 V/m to MIL-STD-464 levels, an order of magnitude beyond the 200 to 600 V/m that most high-intensity facilities reach. Conventional capability is correspondingly deep - radiated susceptibility to MIL-STD-461 RS103 above 200 V/m across 10 kHz to 40 GHz, reverberation chambers qualified for RTCA DO-160 Category L from 100 MHz to 40 GHz, and a 10 metre EMC measurement chamber covering 26 MHz to 40 GHz. Its indirect lightning effects facility runs DO-160 multiple burst and multiple stroke waveforms to Level 5, the most severe category, which together with the HIRF capability makes the site a one-stop route for civil aircraft electrical and electronic equipment qualification. Accreditation is held from A2LA to ISO/IEC 17025 under certificate 214-28 for electrical testing and 214-54 for mechanical, and Element as a group is a Notified Body for the European EMC Directive, an Approved Body for the UK EMC regulations and a Conformity Assessment Body for the FCC. Beyond electromagnetics the site runs environmental simulation across temperature, humidity and altitude in walk-in and bench chambers, structural dynamics including electrodynamic shakers, sine-on-random and classical vibration and pyrotechnic shock, salt spray corrosion testing, power systems testing to 300 kVA, and four-quadrant drive stands rated 500 and 150 horsepower. Specialisations are aerospace HIRF and indirect lightning qualification, MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464 defence programmes, high-field reverberation testing, and combined EMC with dynamics and environmental qualification.
