MedTech Innovation Hub Officially Opens at Megalab’s Aurora, Ontario Facility

A new MedTech innovation hub has officially launched in Aurora, Ontario, operating out of the facility run by Megalab Group Inc., the ISO 17025-accredited compliance and engineering testing lab based in the city.

The hub, developed by not-for-profit Audacity North and described by its founders as Canada’s largest MedTech innovation initiative, is built as a collaboration between Megalab, the Schulich School of Business, and YSpace at York University. The partnership is designed to bring accredited testing capability, academic expertise, and business and commercialization support together under one roof, aimed at helping Canadian medical device developers move products from early engineering through testing and into the market without having to send that work outside the country.

Audacity North was founded by Aurora entrepreneurs Keith Loo and Garry Lee, who describe the hub’s goal as giving MedTech founders the mentorship, infrastructure, and commercialization support needed to take a concept from early-stage development to a market-ready product. Housing the hub inside Megalab’s facility gives participating companies direct access to accredited testing services on-site — Megalab holds A2LA ISO 17025 accreditation and operates EMC, environmental, mechanical, and product safety testing capabilities, including a 10-meter chamber used for EMC emissions and immunity testing, serving medical, automotive, and industrial clients among others.

Local officials have framed the launch as part of a broader push to position Aurora as a center for MedTech and life sciences innovation in Ontario, with backers pointing to potential benefits including local investment, job creation, and keeping more of Canada’s medical device development and testing work inside the country rather than routing it through facilities abroad.
