Element's Warren 11 Mile laboratory is a major multi-discipline testing facility located in Warren, Michigan, in the heart of the Detroit metropolitan area. With a century-long legacy of engineering expertise, the lab provides complete full-vehicle, subsystem, and component testing for the automotive, transportation, aerospace, defense, commercial, and industrial sectors. It holds ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation through A2LA. The facility's capabilities span a wide range of disciplines. On the environmental and climatic side, the lab performs temperature cycling, humidity, salt spray, sand and dust, solar radiation, and corrosion testing to global standards including ASTM, SAE, FMVSS, ISO, DIN, JIS, and OEM-specific specifications from GM, Ford, and Chrysler/Stellantis. It also handles vibration testing, hydraulic testing including multi-axis simulation testing (MAST), mechanical shock, and dynamics evaluations. The lab tests to ISO 16750-2 for electrical loads on automotive electronic equipment, though the EMC clause (4.13) is excluded from that particular standard scope at this location. A significant focus of the Warren 11 Mile facility is EV battery testing. The lab performs battery abuse, safety, performance, and lifecycle testing to standards including DOE/ID-11069 (INEEL Battery Test Manual), SAE J1798, SAE J2288, UL 2580, and UN ST/SG/AC.10 for transport of dangerous goods. Additional capabilities include polymer and composite analysis, fuels and fluids testing, materials testing, VOC emissions testing, interior and exterior component testing, seat testing, and non-metallic materials characterization. The lab's location in the Detroit metro area makes it a convenient partner for the many OEMs, Tier 1, and Tier 2 automotive suppliers based in southeast Michigan.
