
Description
The Com-Power PAM-840A is a battery-powered millimeter-wave preamplifier covering 18 GHz to 40 GHz, designed as the standard mmWave receive-path amplifier for radiated EMC compliance testing. With a typical gain of 37 dB, ±2.5 dB gain flatness, and a noise figure below 5 dB, it compensates for the heavy cable, connector, and path losses that dominate above 18 GHz — lifting DUT emissions above the receiver noise floor where most analyzer front ends otherwise struggle significantly.
Key specifications include a minimum output power of +10 dBm at 1 dB compression, a maximum VSWR of 2.25:1, and approximately 40 dB of reverse isolation to protect the antenna and receiver front end from local oscillator leakage. The unit uses precision 50 Ω 2.92 mm (K-type) female connectors rated for the full 40 GHz range. An internal 6 V / 2 Ah NiMH battery pack powers the unit for approximately 11 hours of continuous operation, eliminating conducted noise from bench supplies in sensitive test setups. External +15 VDC / 500 mA adapter operation is also supported.
Primary applications include 5G FR2 spurious emissions and harmonic characterization across all major FR2 bands (n257, n258, n260, n261), automotive radar compliance at 24 GHz and above, FCC Part 15 and CISPR 32 harmonic testing through 40 GHz, MIL-STD-461 RE102 extended range, RTCA DO-160, and mmWave shielding effectiveness measurements. It pairs directly with the Com-Power AH-840 series horn antennas and is frequently used alongside the PAM-118A to provide complete 500 MHz to 40 GHz radiated emissions coverage.
