Description
The Com-Power PAM-840H is an ultra-high-gain millimeter-wave preamplifier covering 18 GHz to 40 GHz, designed for the most demanding low-signal EMC measurements in the mmWave band. With a typical gain of 50 dB — 10 dB more than the PAM-840A — and a noise figure of less than 3 dB, it delivers the sensitivity needed to make confident compliance decisions at FR2 frequencies where cable loss, path loss, and receiver noise figures all work against the measurement.
Key specifications include ±2.5 dB gain flatness, greater than 50 dB reverse isolation, an output power of +8 dBm at 1 dB compression, and a maximum RF input level of 0 dBm. Input and output VSWR is 3:1 maximum. The unit uses precision 50 Ω 2.92 mm (K-type) female connectors rated for the full 40 GHz operating range, where torque wrench discipline is essential for repeatable measurements.
The PAM-840H is battery-powered by an internal 6V / 2 Ah NiMH pack with a typical operating time of 11 hours, eliminating conducted noise from bench supplies in sensitive test setups. An external +15 VDC adapter is also supported. Physical dimensions are 203 × 152 × 60 mm (8″ × 6″ × 2.375″) with a weight of 1.13 kg (2.5 lbs).
Supported test applications include 5G FR2 certification at 24, 28, 37, and 39 GHz, automotive radar spurious emissions, aerospace and defense mmWave compliance, satellite module RF leakage, and mmWave shielding effectiveness measurements where attenuation can exceed 100 dB. It pairs naturally with the Com-Power AH-840 series horn antenna and is frequently used alongside the PAM-118A for sub-18 GHz coverage.
