Description
The Frankonia FPA-2 is a general-purpose broadband preamplifier covering 9 kHz to 2 GHz, designed to improve system sensitivity for radiated emissions measurements in compliance with CISPR 22 and CISPR 25. With 30 dB of gain, amplitude flatness of less than ±3 dB, and a noise figure of 2.5 dB at 1 GHz, it makes overall system noise nearly independent of downstream components — including cables and receiver front ends — making it particularly effective for measurements against the very low limits required by CISPR 25 when connected directly to the antenna.
Key specifications include a 1 dB compression point of ≥ -20 dBm (87 dBµV), input/output VSWR of less than 2:1, and 50 Ω N-type flange connectors. The FPA-2 includes ESD protection to prevent damage from unintentional electrostatic discharge during antenna cable connections — an important practical feature in fast-paced test environments. An internal protection circuit also limits the rising and falling edges of the supply voltage to prevent damage to internal components or the connected receiver from voltage spikes.
The unit is housed in a compact aluminum enclosure measuring 82 × 38 × 27 mm and weighing 150 g. It is powered by +12 VDC (±2 V) at less than 120 mA, compatible with standard wall plug supplies, 12V auxiliary outputs from receivers and analyzers, or batteries capable of supplying at least 140 mA continuously. A suitable 230V power supply with Schuko socket is included. Switching power supplies are not recommended due to potential interference.
