Description
The Frankonia FPA-6A is a general-purpose broadband preamplifier covering 10 MHz to 6 GHz, designed for radiated emissions measurements in compliance with CISPR 22 and CISPR 25. With 28 dB of gain, amplitude flatness of less than ±3 dB, and a noise figure of 2.5 dB at 1 GHz, it significantly reduces the contribution of cable attenuation and receiver noise to overall system noise — making it especially well-suited for low-limit CISPR 25 automotive emissions testing when placed directly at the antenna.
Key specifications include a 1 dB compression point of ≥ -18 dBm (89 dBµV), input/output VSWR of less than 2:1, and 50 Ω N-type flange connectors. Like the FPA-2, the FPA-6A includes ESD protection to guard against damage from electrostatic discharge during antenna cable connections. An internal protection circuit limits supply voltage transients to protect internal components and connected instruments from voltage spikes.
The unit is housed in a compact aluminum enclosure measuring 82 × 37 × 27 mm and weighing 141 g. It is powered by +12 VDC (±2 V) at less than 130 mA, compatible with standard wall plug supplies, 12V auxiliary outputs from receivers and analyzers, or batteries capable of sustaining at least 140 mA continuously. A suitable 230V power supply with Schuko socket is included. The use of switching power supplies is not recommended due to potential interference.
