Description
The Frankonia FPA-6B is a broadband preamplifier covering 9 kHz to 6 GHz — the widest frequency range of any model in the FPA-2/6 series — designed for radiated emissions measurements in EMC test environments. With 28 dB of gain, amplitude flatness of less than ±3 dB, and a noise figure of 2.5 dB at 1 GHz, it improves overall system sensitivity across a range spanning from below the AM broadcast band through the upper microwave range, making it a versatile single-unit solution for labs requiring coverage from the lowest CISPR bands through 6 GHz.
Key specifications include a 1 dB compression point of greater than 100 dBµV, input/output VSWR of less than 2:1, and 50 Ω N-type flange connectors. Due to its wide frequency range and the technical constraints involved, the FPA-6B does not include the ESD protection found on the FPA-2 and FPA-6A. As a result, special care is required when connecting coaxial cables — all cables should be discharged before connection to protect the sensitive semiconductor structures operating in the microwave frequency range. An internal protection circuit limits supply voltage transients to safeguard internal components and connected instruments.
The unit is housed in an aluminum enclosure measuring 88 × 41 × 27 mm and weighing 160 g. It is powered by +12 VDC (±2 V) at less than 120 mA, compatible with standard wall plug supplies, 12V auxiliary outputs from receivers and analyzers, or batteries capable of sustaining at least 140 mA continuously. A suitable 230V power supply with Schuko socket is included. The use of switching power supplies is not recommended due to potential interference.
