
Description
The Schwarzbeck BBV 9721 is a low-noise, low-power millimeter-wave preamplifier with a nominal frequency range of 18 GHz to 40 GHz and a usable range of 12 GHz to 40 GHz, designed to increase sensitivity during field strength measurements and for general attenuation characterization at the upper end of the Ka-band. With a typical gain of 35 dB (±4 dB), a minimum gain of 30 dB, a noise figure of 5.5 dB, and a typical SWR of less than 2.6, it compensates for the significant cable loss, path loss, and connector attenuation that make measurements above 18 GHz particularly challenging — lifting weak signals above the system noise floor when placed directly at the antenna.
Key specifications include a maximum input power of -20 dBm (87 dBµV), a 1 dB compression point of greater than +15 dBm (122 dBµV) at output, and 2.92 mm 50 Ω connectors at both input and output — the appropriate interface for reliable performance across the full 40 GHz operating range. A short cable with 2.92 mm plugs is included to connect the BBV 9721 directly to the antenna, with the BBHA 9170 broadband horn antenna being the recommended pairing.
Power is supplied via 4 mm banana sockets requiring a dual supply of +15 VDC / 600 mA and -(8 to 15) VDC / -100 mA, available through the optional PS 9721 power supply unit (110/230V compatible) or the PS 9721 Battery power supply unit with integrated accumulator for field use.
