Description
The US Micro Labs USMC18400 is a rugged, low-noise millimeter-wave preamplifier covering 18 GHz to 40 GHz, designed for EMC radiated emissions measurements at the upper end of the Ka-band where cable attenuation, connector losses, and path loss are at their most severe. With a typical gain of 35 dB (33.5 dB minimum, 36 dB maximum), gain flatness of ±2.5 dB, a typical noise figure of 4 dB (3.5 dB minimum, 5 dB maximum), and a P1dB of +10 dBm minimum, it delivers the sensitivity needed to resolve weak DUT emissions against tight compliance limits when placed directly at the receive antenna across the full 18–40 GHz range. Input and output VSWR are both 2.25:1 maximum, maximum input/reverse output power is +10 dBm, and maximum input/output DC voltage is 3V. Non-destructive reverse polarity protection is included. RF connectors are 2.92 mm female (K-type) at both input and output — the appropriate interface for reliable performance across the full 40 GHz operating range.
The USMC18400 is available in two power variants. The USMC18400A is powered externally at 11–15 VDC via a waterproof circular connector with threaded lock, drawing 190 mA typical — suited for fixed chamber and bench installations where a regulated supply is available. The USMC18400B includes an internal rechargeable battery operating at 17–19 VDC with approximately 10 hours of battery life, drawing 65–690 mA depending on charge state — eliminating cable routing constraints and conducted noise from external supplies in sensitive antenna-side measurement setups.
Both variants are rated IP60 with connector caps installed and share the same compact housing measuring 108.0 × 58.61 × 171.0 mm (W × H × D) without bracket, or 191.0 mm depth with bracket. The USMC18400A weighs 0.59 kg and operates from -30°C to +85°C; the USMC18400B weighs 0.86 kg and operates from 0°C to +50°C.
