About

SSC Labs is an EMC testing and design services lab based at the Harry Reid Engineering Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno, operating in formal partnership with UNR since 2019. The lab is staffed by iNARTE-certified EMC engineers with experience reaching back to the 1970s, including active participation on the RTCA/DO-160 technical standards committee. SSC Labs serves product developers, startups, and engineers needing hands-on access to EMC test equipment combined with direct engineering guidance throughout the testing process. Test capabilities include radiated emissions measurement, ESD testing (IEC 61000-4-2), conducted emissions, and immunity testing, with RF enclosures available for focused emissions troubleshooting and full standard sweeps. The lab also supports real-time bench-level design modifications during test sessions, including filter tuning, ferrite choke evaluation, PCB-level capacitor and common-mode choke adjustments, and shielding effectiveness troubleshooting using conductive tape and enclosure seam evaluation. Services offered include pre-compliance testing, CE Mark self-certification support, FCC compliance guidance (ANSI C63 series), RTCA/DO-160 military and aerospace EMC testing, independent lab time rental, and EMC design consultation. Telcordia GR battery testing is also offered. The lab model emphasizes direct engineer-to-engineer collaboration, with customers actively participating in test sessions and data interpretation.
