About
TUV SUD Canada's Ottawa laboratory sits on Teron Road in Kanata, in the technology cluster known as Silicon Valley North, and the company describes it as one of the largest third-party non-government testing facilities in Canada. The site began life as a research and development facility in the late 1990s and was opened as a TUV SUD regulatory compliance laboratory in January 2018 with 23,000 square feet and twelve experienced staff. Its defining asset is a 10-metre ambient-free semi-anechoic chamber, one of very few in the country: ambient-free means the chamber is shielded well enough that external radio traffic does not contaminate the measurement, which at a 10-metre separation in an urban technology park is a genuine engineering achievement and the reason full 10-metre compliance distances can be measured here rather than extrapolated from 3 metres. A 3-metre EMC and EMI chamber and a dedicated radiated susceptibility chamber sit alongside it, with a shaker table, a HALT chamber for highly accelerated life testing, and separate environmental, power and product safety laboratories. Its market-access reach is the real distinction. The laboratory is A2LA-accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and registered with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada under Conformity Assessment Body identifier CA4180, and through the mutual recognition arrangements that identifier carries it holds recognised scopes for the United States across FCC Parts 15 subparts B, C, E and H, 18, 22, 24, 25, 27, 30, 74, 90, 95, 96, 97 and 101; for Australia to AS CISPR 11 and AS/NZS CISPR 32; for Taiwan to CNS 13438 and CNS 15936:2016 up to 6 GHz; for Korea to the KS C 9811, 9832 and 9835 series; and for Vietnam to QCVN 118:2018/BTTTT. It also holds accreditation under the Verizon Independent Testing Laboratories NEBS Testing Certification programme, so NEBS work to Telcordia GR-1089-CORE and GR-63-CORE can be combined with mandatory compliance testing in a single test plan at one location - which for carrier equipment is the whole point. Defence testing to MIL-STD-461, shock and vibration, and RoHS and REACH compliance complete the scope. Specialisations are NEBS and carrier telecommunications equipment, 10-metre ambient-free emissions measurement, multi-market radio approvals from a Canadian base, and HALT reliability testing.
