DEKRA's Plymouth Lab Approved for General Motors GMW3097 EMC Testing

Published 2 min readnews

DEKRA’s Automotive Test Center of Excellence in Plymouth, Michigan has received approval to conduct testing under General Motors' GMW3097 electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) specification, expanding the facility's roster of OEM-approved testing capabilities.

The approval allows DEKRA to run a broad set of EMC evaluations on automotive electronic components and systems, supporting manufacturers as vehicles continue evolving through electrification, connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems, and software-defined architectures.

John Tesoro, President of DEKRA Americas, said OEM-specific approvals help customers efficiently validate products against both industry and manufacturer-specific requirements, and called the GMW3097 approval a meaningful expansion of DEKRA's ability to support automotive manufacturers and suppliers.

The Plymouth facility offers a wide range of services beyond EMC, including cybersecurity assessments, connectivity testing, functional safety evaluations, environmental testing, and EV charging validation. DEKRA's approved GMW3097 testing scope specifically covers radiated and conducted emissions, radiated and conducted immunity, bulk current injection (BCI), near-field portable transmitter testing, and electrostatic discharge evaluations.

Andres Moreno, Senior Vice President of Digital Product Solutions at DEKRA North America, attributed the achievement to the expertise of the Plymouth EMC team, noting that as vehicles grow more connected, electrified, and software-driven, manufacturers need testing partners equipped to handle increasingly complex validation requirements.

The approval adds to DEKRA's continued investment in automotive testing services designed to help manufacturers keep pace with OEM, regulatory, and market demands.
