Reduce EMC Product Veriication Time with Fast Scanning Techniques
This application note details how fast pre-scanning techniques can reduce EMC verification time using modern compliance receiver technology like the Keysight N9038A MXE EMI receiver. The paper focuses on utilizing multi-trace displays (active and max hold) to rapidly identify peak emissions, optimize EUT configuration for maximum radiation, and efficiently collect suspect frequencies. A 30 MHz – 1 GHz span can be scanned in 109 ms with a 40 kHz step size (24,251 points) using a 120 kHz resolution bandwidth—allowing multiple scans within the same dwell time as slower methods—and then automatically populating a suspect list for final measurements according to standards like CISPR 16-2-2 & 16-2-3. The MXE’s search function automates signal list creation and provides real-time detector updates, further streamlining the process.
