Testing Electromagnetic Compatibility of Remote Keyless Entry Modules in Automotive Applications

Keysight Technologies

Automotive EMC

This application note details an electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing system for automotive Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) modules, leveraging Keysight Technologies' U2353A USB DAQ module alongside a function/arbitrary waveform generator and spectrum analyzer. The system tests RKE functionality at frequencies of 315 MHz (US/Japan) or 434/868 MHz (Europe), simulating key presses via pneumatic actuators and verifying signal transmission and reception including Message Authentication Code (MAC) verification. A key aspect highlighted is the DAQ module’s ability to synchronize interference signals with RKE data using digital inputs, and measure receiver sleep current with analog inputs – providing comprehensive functional and EMC testing capabilities in a cost-effective solution.
