About

BLOCKLab is the test laboratory of BLOCK Transformatoren-Elektronik GmbH at Max-Planck-Strasse 36-46 in Verden, Lower Saxony, a manufacturer of transformers, switched-mode power supplies, UPS modules, electronic circuit breakers, reactors and EMI filters supplying industry worldwide. The laboratory was built to test BLOCK's own products and now operates as an independent business unit offering EMC testing as a service, focused deliberately on the basic standards relevant to capital-goods industrial products rather than attempting broad market coverage. It is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001 - note that BLOCKLab does not publish an ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, so reports are manufacturer-certified rather than accredited. The centrepiece is a large full anechoic chamber with hybrid absorbers, giving a 3 m measurement distance and taking test items up to 1,500 mm wide by 2,300 mm high weighing as much as 2,000 kg on the turntable - an unusually high load rating for a full-anechoic rather than semi-anechoic room, reflecting the heavy transformer and cabinet-scale equipment the lab was designed around. Published capability includes radiated emissions from 9 kHz to 6 GHz, conducted emissions from 10 kHz to 30 MHz at up to 200 A per phase, ESD to 30 kV, radiated immunity from 80 MHz to 6 GHz at up to 40 V/m, burst to 5 kV, surge to 5 kV with a 24 kV impulse voltage test, and conducted RF immunity from 150 kHz to 230 MHz. The 200 A per phase conducted emissions rating and the 24 kV impulse capability are the standout numbers for anyone testing power-conversion hardware. Standards coverage is weighted towards power and industrial equipment: DIN EN 55011, the EN 61000-3 and 61000-6 families, EN 61204-3 for power supply units, EN 61131-2 for programmable logic controllers, EN 61800-3 for adjustable speed electrical equipment, EN 62040-2 for UPS, EN 55014 and EN 55015, plus a full railway set covering EN 50121-3-2 rolling stock, EN 50121-4 signalling and telecommunications, EN 50121-5 railway power supply systems and installations, and EN 50155 electronic equipment on railway vehicles. A mobile testing service brings compact measurement equipment to customer sites anywhere in Germany and nearby regions, allowing large or stationary installations and integrated components to be measured without disassembly or transport. The same lab also offers material analysis and shock and vibration testing.
