CETEST - Railway EMC and EMI Testing
About
CETEST works from Lazkaibar in Beasain, Gipuzkoa, in the Basque railway manufacturing cluster, and is a railway test specialist whose EMC practice is built entirely around field measurement rather than chambers. All of its equipment is portable, and that is the point: the measurements it performs can only be made on a real vehicle on real track. Its scope covers field radiated electromagnetic interference tests on both vehicles and infrastructure to EN 50121-3-1 for vehicle radiated limits and EN 50121-5 for infrastructure, track circuit compatibility tests measuring the harmonic content a train injects into the rail network, psophometric current measurement assessing interference on analogue telephone lines, and axle counter compatibility tests using magnetic loop antennas - the last three being signalling compatibility disciplines that have no equivalent in product EMC and that determine whether a train can safely run on a given line. Human exposure work covers static and alternating magnetic fields to EN 50500 with magnetic flux density measurement against ICNIRP guidelines, and conventional immunity testing for electrostatic discharge, electrical fast transients and surges sits alongside conducted and radiated radio-frequency interference testing. Standards cited are EN 50121, EN 50238 and TS 50238, EN 50500 and EN 50592. The instrument set is voltage sensors, Rogowski current coils, data acquisition systems at varying speed and resolution for harmonic emission work, magnetic and electric field antennas, and spectrum analysers and EMI receivers. CETEST also defines EMC control plans and provides FMCA consulting, advises on signalling systems and studies component failure caused by currents passing through bearings.
