Cosmos Corporation is a product safety certification company headquartered at Matsusaka in Mie Prefecture, and its EMC work is concentrated at a dedicated EMC site at Shimesasu in Watarai, on the Ise peninsula south of Nagoya. The chamber set there covers a wider size range than most Japanese independents: a large 10-metre semi-anechoic chamber, a 3-metre chamber, a shielded room, and a separate chamber built specifically for automotive and in-vehicle equipment, which lets the laboratory take everything from small household appliances to large industrial machines. It also runs on-site measurement at customer factories for equipment too large or too fixed to move, which in Japan is a practical necessity for machine tools and production plant. The measurement team is iNARTE-certified - a personnel qualification for EMC engineers that is uncommon to see published by a Japanese laboratory, and a signal that competence is held by named individuals rather than only by the quality system. Cosmos is unusual in combining that testing with being a certification body in its own right: it performs conformity assessment under the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Act for the PSE mark, designated medical device manufacturing and marketing certification, terminal equipment technical conformity certification, and specified radio equipment technical conformity certification - the giteki mark - and it handles overseas applications including North American NRTL submissions and FDA registration, China CCC, EU Low Voltage Directive evaluation and CB Scheme reports. It holds ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration. Surrounding the EMC work is a broad physical test scope: IP dust and water ingress including automotive parts, high and low temperature, constant temperature and humidity, thermal shock, tracking, vibration, flammability, salt spray including combined salt spray, energy efficiency, and total luminous flux. Specialisations are combined certification and testing under one roof, giteki and PSE conformity assessment, large-equipment and on-site EMC, and automotive in-vehicle equipment.
