SIQ Extends Railway EMC Testing Capabilities with EN 50592 and EN 50500

SIQ, a Slovenian testing, inspection, and certification body based in Ljubljana, has expanded its railway EMC testing scope in 2026 to include EN 50592 and EN 50500, and has passed an accreditation assessment by Slovenian Accreditation (SA) for both standards.

EN 50592 covers testing rolling stock for electromagnetic compatibility with trackside train detection systems such as axle counters, while EN 50500 addresses measurement of magnetic field levels in the railway environment. Both additions build on SIQ’s existing railway EMC scope, which already covers the EN 50121 series (the core set of railway EMC standards, covering everything from whole-system emissions to rolling stock and signalling equipment) as well as EN 50155 for electronic equipment on rolling stock.

The expanded capability covers both laboratory testing through SIQ’s EMC laboratory and on-site measurements of rolling stock and railway infrastructure. SIQ has already carried out on-site railway EMC measurements in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Türkiye.

SIQ operates as a Notified Body (NB 1304) under EU Directive 2016/797 and as a Designated Body for Slovenian national railway requirements, with more than 15 years of experience in railway testing and conformity assessment. The organization also holds national measurement standards for electric quantities and for time and frequency.

The expanded scope is aimed at rolling stock manufacturers, suppliers, and railway operators seeking to demonstrate electromagnetic compatibility compliance as railway systems grow more electronically complex.
