European Test Services B.V. operates from Keplerlaan 1 in Noordwijk - the address of the European Space Agency's European Space Research and Technology Centre - and is the commercial route through which non-ESA customers reach the ESTEC Test Centre's spacecraft-scale environmental test facilities. Its EMC asset is the Maxwell facility, dedicated to electromagnetic compatibility and electrostatic discharge testing on test articles ranging from small units to large spacecraft structures, and the construction detail that ETS publishes shows what it is built for. Maxwell is a shielded enclosure with continuously conducting metal walls, floor and ceiling; the walls and ceiling carry anechoic absorbers with the ceiling absorbers sealed for cleanliness, which matters because flight hardware cannot tolerate particulate shedding during test. The floor is lined with ferrite tiles and finished with an epoxy coating chosen to avoid electrostatic discharge - again a flight hardware concern rather than a commercial one. One wall carries air-cooled high-power resistive absorbers for automotive compatibility and passive intermodulation testing, PIM being the measurement of spurious products generated by high-power RF passing through mechanical joints, which is a specialist discipline in satellite payload work. Emission and susceptibility testing is fully automated, which ETS states avoids modulation and overload problems and saves test time.
