ICMET Craiova - Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing
About
The EMC testing group of ICMET Craiova - the National Institute for Research, Development and Testing in Electrical Engineering - sits within the Electrical Testing Team of the institute's High Voltage Division on Decebal Boulevard in Craiova, southern Romania. Its semi-anechoic chamber was commissioned in 2000: an 8 by 4 by 4 metre shielded housing with a 3-metre measuring distance and a 1.5 by 1.5 metre uniform field area. ICMET is unusually candid about that chamber's limits, publishing pre-compliance rather than full-compliance tolerances of plus or minus 9.5 dB from 30 to 90 MHz, plus or minus 6.5 dB from 90 to 200 MHz and plus or minus 4 dB from 200 MHz to 18 GHz - which tells an engineer exactly what the chamber can and cannot be relied on for, and is more useful than an unqualified claim. Two further shielded enclosures support it: a 4 by 2 by 0.8 metre measuring chamber with better than 80 dB shielding effectiveness, and a 5725 by 2350 by 2625 millimetre screened room with better than 120 dB. A Helmholtz coil system reaching 2,450 millitesla handles magnetic field work. The institute publishes its instrument inventory by model, which is rare: a Rohde and Schwarz SMV 42 EMI receiver covering 9 kHz to 2.6 GHz, an SMY 02 signal generator to 2.08 GHz, a 100W1000M1 power amplifier from 80 MHz to 1 GHz, a CWG 4-412 combination wave generator to 4,500 V, an EFTG 4502 fast transient generator to 4,400 V, an ESDC 30 discharge simulator to 15 kV, NNB 41 single-phase and LT 32/C three-phase artificial networks, AMZ 41 and F-201 absorbing clamps, an HL 1000 hybrid antenna, a CL 55C click analyser, an HAR 100-1P harmonics and flicker analyser and EMR 20 and EnviroMentor field meters. Most immunity and emissions methods are RENAR accredited; a few radiated emission methods and IEC 61000-4-12 are marked in progress. Military work runs to MIL-STD-461E and automotive to the 2004/104/EC directive with ISO 11452 and ISO 7637 - note that these are superseded editions, so confirm current scope before relying on the published list. Specialisations are pre-compliance chamber testing with declared uncertainties, high-shielding screened enclosures, Helmholtz magnetic field work, EMF exposure measurement in substations and occupied buildings, and automotive and military immunity.
