About
The Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory of the Lukasiewicz Research Network's Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity - the successor to the Instytut Technik Innowacyjnych EMAG, Poland's mining and industrial electronics research institute - operates across two sites and is accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation under number AB 261. Its main facility is at the institute headquarters on ul. Leopolda in Katowice, in the Silesian industrial heartland, with a second site at the Bialystok Science and Technology Park in the north-east. The two are configured for different things. Katowice has two semi-anechoic chambers at a 3-metre measurement distance, with emissions measurement from 100 kHz to 18 GHz and radiated immunity from 80 MHz to 6 GHz at field strengths reaching several hundred volts per metre. Bialystok has a single semi-anechoic chamber at a 5-metre measurement distance built for larger equipment, handling articles up to 1.5 tonnes, and is equipped with a laboratory power simulator able to supply AC or DC of any waveform up to 400 volts and 32 amperes - which is what allows a drive, converter or mining machine controller to be tested under a realistic supply rather than a clean one. The laboratory's declared strength is high-current and high-voltage work: it tests equipment with signal, communication and power lines on both AC and DC at currents up to several tens of amperes, absorbs the energy with resistive load banks, and has deliberately extended its artificial mains networks and coupling and decoupling devices beyond catalogue ratings to higher currents, higher voltages and wider telecommunications signal bandwidths. Its accredited scope spans a range of CISPR and CENELEC standards plus more than a dozen of the IEC 61000-4-x series covering propagation of disturbances in cable networks, and in situ measurement of complete systems at the installation site is offered where laboratory testing is impractical. Industries served are radio and telecommunications equipment, industrial equipment, medical devices, scientific instruments, multimedia, computer hardware and consumer goods. Specialisations are high-current and high-voltage EMC, large and heavy equipment at 5-metre distance, cable network disturbance propagation, and in situ system measurement.
