About
SIRIM QAS International is the testing and certification arm of SIRIM Berhad, Malaysia's national standards and industrial research organisation, and operates from the SIRIM Complex on Persiaran Dato' Menteri in Section 2 of Shah Alam, Selangor, west of Kuala Lumpur. It is the dominant route to Malaysian market access for electrical, electronic and communications products: SIRIM QAS performs the conformity assessment behind the SIRIM label that communications and multimedia equipment must carry for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and runs product certification, inspection and import permit work alongside the testing. Its EMC capability is built on two anechoic chambers with a 3-metre antenna-to-equipment distance plus a genuine open area test site - the OATS is separately identified on the complex and remains the reference method against which chamber site attenuation is validated, so borderline chamber results can be resolved rather than merely repeated. The laboratory is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 and operates as a notified laboratory, with ISO 9001 certification; its Penang laboratory was reported in 2026 to have achieved A2LA accreditation, extending United States acceptance. Shielding effectiveness testing is offered as a distinct service, which few general laboratories provide. The accredited standards reach well past the commercial directive set: alongside CISPR 11, 32 and 35, the IEC 61000-3 and 61000-4 series and FCC Part 15, it covers the automotive ISO 11452 series including parts 1, 4, 7, 8 and 10, ISO 7637 parts 1 to 3 and ISO 10605, plus MIL-STD-461 for military equipment and RTCA DO-160 for airborne equipment - an unusually broad span for a single national body. Radio frequency testing sits beside the EMC work. Industries served are automotive, household appliances, industrial equipment, laboratory equipment and medical devices. Note that SIRIM's own pages block automated retrieval, so this record is built from its indexed service pages, directory profiles and public listings; the complex publishes both 40000 and 40700 Shah Alam postcodes, the latter being the PO Box. Specialisations are Malaysian SIRIM label and MCMC certification, open area test site measurement, shielding effectiveness testing, and automotive, military and airborne EMC.
