Ten Years of EMC Collaboration: Würth Elektronik and the University of Valencia Mark a Milestone

Published 2 min readnews

Würth Elektronik and the University of Valencia have celebrated a decade of joint research in the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). On May 20, 2026, company representatives joined faculty and students to mark the tenth anniversary of the "Cátedra EMC Würth Elektronik – Universitat de València," a research chair the two organizations established together.

The ceremony brought together the chair's leadership — Professor José Torres, Professor Adrian Suarez, Ph.D., along with Würth Elektronik eiSos product managers Jorge Victoria and Antonio Alcarria. Alexander Gerfer, Chief Technology Officer of the Würth Elektronik Group, served as keynote speaker, while Inmaculada Coma, Vice-Rector of the Universitat de València, spoke on behalf of the university and highlighted the value of the partnership.

Founded a decade ago to push forward both research and real-world applications in EMC, the chair has since guided doctoral dissertations as well as master's and bachelor's theses, run seminars and courses, and presented at international conferences. Each year, Würth Elektronik puts forward project proposals that open up internship opportunities, both in the chair's laboratory and at the company's headquarters. Jorge Victoria and Antonio Alcarria of the product management team coordinate these efforts.

A track record reflected in its graduates

The anniversary event was hosted by Maria Cuesta and Victor Martinez, both former students of the department who now work in product management at Würth Elektronik. Professor Adrián Suárez — the chair's very first doctoral student, who later returned as a faculty member — gave a presentation reviewing the department's achievements and outlining its current and future work, with support from Antonio Alcarria.

"At Würth Elektronik, it's always about the people. For us, support isn't limited to customers; we also stand by researchers with advice and assistance and support student initiatives, for example. EMC has always been an important field for us, and with the Cátedra EMC, we fulfilled a dream ten years ago," said Alexander Gerfer, thanking everyone who has contributed over the years.
