Bondorf, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

ELMAC GmbH EMV-Labor J. Buehne is an independent EMC test laboratory at Boschstrasse 2 in Bondorf, Baden-Wuerttemberg, active in EMC testing since its founding in 1990 and accredited since 1993 - originally by the Deutscher Akkreditierungsrat (DAR) and maintained continuously since, with re-assessment by DAkkS for EMC and by the Zentralstelle der Laender fuer Gesundheitsschutz (ZLG) for medical technology. The ZLG involvement is worth noting: medical device EMC accreditation in Germany runs through ZLG rather than DAkkS alone, and ELMAC holds both. Since 2001 it has been a KBA-designated Technical Service, performing E1 type approval testing and handling the approval of vehicle components with the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt. Testing stations comprise two absorber halls with 1 m and 3 m measurement distances covering emission and immunity to 6 GHz, an open-area test site with a 10 m measurement distance, a conducted emissions station covering AC, DC, telecommunication lines and load connections from 9 kHz to 30 MHz, and two shielded rooms for conducted immunity. Published limits are specific and honest about their constraints: surge to 4 kV and voltage dips and interruptions are single-phase only, as are the two harmonics and flicker stations; burst reaches 4 kV, conducted RF runs 10 kHz to 230 MHz, ESD to 30 kV, and power-frequency magnetic field immunity is standard to 30 A/m. BCI covers 2 MHz to 250 MHz, there is an automotive station for conducted transient immunity (pulses), near-field radiated immunity from 30 kHz to 13.56 MHz, and conducted asymmetric immunity from 0 Hz to 150 kHz. Recent accreditation additions cover IEC 61000-4-16, EN 60601-1-2:2015+A1:2021 (IEC 60601-1-2 Ed. 4.1) and EN 61000-4-39:2017, with non-accredited testing offered to ETSI EN 300 220-3. Product groups covered include industrial and scientific measurement and control equipment, medical technology, IT equipment, household appliances and hand-held power tools, automotive electrical/electronic sub-assemblies (EUB), lighting, and EMVU environmental field measurement. A customer workshop area is provided so clients can make small modifications and repairs to their equipment on site.

Burgrieden, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

EMCE GmbH is an accredited EMC testing laboratory and engineering office for EMC testing and circuit development at Untere Wiesen 1 in Burgrieden, between Ulm and Biberach in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Its accreditation structure is the notable feature: DAkkS accreditation to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 under master certificate D-PL-12122-01-00, with five separate partial certificates - EMC and telecommunications (-01-01), ISED Canada (-01-02), FCC USA (-01-03), automotive/KBA (-01-04) and medical (-01-05). Holding discrete DAkkS partial accreditations specifically for FCC and ISED means North American market access can be handled from Burgrieden rather than routed through a US or Canadian laboratory, and the company is additionally recognised by the Bundesnetzagentur as a listed measuring station and as a conformity assessment body recognised by US authorities, with reports carried by the MRA and ILAC-MRA. The facility centres on a fully anechoic room with absorber material lining the ceiling, floor and walls, backed by alternative open-area test sites at 3 m and 10 m measurement distances, and a variable power supply rated 3 x 5,000 W or 1 x 10,000 W. Test procedures are validated in accordance with DIN EN 61326-1 for precise and reproducible results, and internal quality assurance documents and reviews every test operation. Named sector coverage spans automotive, medical, household appliances, IT and multimedia, radio, and industry and rail. Beyond measurement the company offers pre- and post-test engineering work including circuit and layout review and advice on device concept design, drawing on its own background in product development and circuit design - positioning itself as a laboratory that can diagnose and fix an EMC problem rather than only reporting it.

Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

The Institut fuer Energieuebertragung und Hochspannungstechnik (IEH) at the University of Stuttgart, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Tenbohlen, offers its research facilities on the Vaihingen campus as contract testing services, and its centre of gravity is high-voltage engineering rather than EMC. The high-voltage hall performs AC withstand testing with simultaneous partial discharge measurement to IEC 60270, lightning and switching impulse voltage testing, capacitance and dissipation factor (tan delta) measurement, relative permittivity and dielectric loss characterisation of liquid and solid insulation, and breakdown and withstand testing - supported by dissolved gas-in-oil analysis with headspace sampling, insulation moisture determination and high-speed optical imaging for tracking particles in insulating fluid, a combination used for transformer condition assessment and fault diagnosis. Alongside that sits a power network group measuring supply quality against EN 50160 and testing controllers and protection devices in real-time hardware-in-the-loop environments. The EMC offering is deliberately scoped as pre-compliance: radiated and conducted emission and immunity measurement to the DIN EN 61000 series and electrostatic discharge resilience testing for CE marking purposes, backed by three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation, which lets a coupling or emission mechanism be reproduced numerically as well as measured. As a university institute it holds no ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and is recorded here without one; work is contracted as research and development service rather than accredited certification. Specialisations are power transformers and insulation diagnostics, grid and power quality measurement, protection and control device testing, and EMC simulation-led investigation.

Ludwigsburg, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

The Mooser group runs two DAkkS-accredited EMC laboratories - Jakob Mooser GmbH at Egling-Thanning south of Munich and Mooser EMC Technik GmbH at Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart - and has specialised for more than thirty years in the electromagnetic behaviour of high-voltage automotive drive systems. Its defining asset is the eCHAMBER test bench, of which the group operates four: purpose-built enclosures that let a traction inverter, electric machine, DC/DC converter or complete high-voltage powertrain be run under realistic electrical and mechanical load inside a controlled EMC environment, which is what makes emission measurement on a switching drive at full power meaningful rather than notional. A reverberation chamber complements the absorber facilities for immunity and shielding work. Service lines follow the electrified drivetrain end to end: traction battery and fuel cell stack EMC measurement, power-semiconductor and module-level emission characterisation, high-voltage cable and connector work, AC and DC charging system testing, and shielding effectiveness measurement on housings, cables and enclosures. Both laboratories hold DAkkS accreditation to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and the group is a designated Technical Service of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) for UN-ECE R10 type approval. Alongside measurement, Mooser provides EMC consultancy and interference-suppression design, which is how most customers use it - as a development partner that both finds the emission and specifies the filter or shield that fixes it. Specialisations are electric mobility and high-voltage powertrains, power electronics and semiconductors, and military, railway and industrial equipment.

Erlangen, Bavaria, Germany+1 location

Siemens operates two DAkkS-accredited test centres under its Digital Enterprise Services banner, both accredited to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and both open to external customers as well as internal product lines. The EMC-Center at Erlangen is organized into a Laboratory division and an Engineering division, the latter unusual in that it takes on field measurement, energy system simulation and on-site troubleshooting at customer installations rather than confining itself to chamber work. Its semi-anechoic chamber covers 150 kHz to 6 GHz for emission measurement with shielded cabins for immunity testing, and test programmes are run against IEC and EN standards, FCC requirements, the Korean KS C series, marine specifications and MIL-STD - a mix that reflects where Siemens equipment is sold. A particular strength is railway work: EMC and electromagnetic field measurement on rolling stock and on trackside and electrification infrastructure, including human exposure assessment. The Type Test Center at Karlsruhe complements this with environmental and mechanical qualification - climatic chambers of 600 to 1,500 litres covering minus 70 to plus 180 degrees Celsius and 10 to 98 per cent relative humidity, vibration to 100 g, shock, noise and drop testing - and carries a dense set of certification approvals: UL, FM, the IECEE CB Scheme, ATEX, IECEx, UKEX, CCC-Ex and marine type approvals, so explosion-protected and harsh-environment equipment can be qualified and certified in one place. Both centres offer test planning, approval consulting and EMC seminars. Specialisations are industrial and process automation equipment, railway vehicles and infrastructure, energy and switchgear systems, and explosion-protected apparatus.

Vaihingen an der Enz, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

emfeld GmbH, founded in March 2019 at Vaihingen an der Enz between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe and led by managing director Florian Dietze, was incorporated specifically for the analysis and evaluation of electromagnetic fields - its registered business purpose is the metrological detection of low- and high-frequency non-ionising radiation - and it has built an EMC test estate around that core in a remarkably short time. The facility runs absorber halls configured for both the 3 metre and 10 metre measurement distances plus a hall sized for large objects, an open-area test site, GTEM and TEM cells for compact emission and immunity work, and shielded cabins. Capability figures are strong for a laboratory of this age and size: measurement to 40 GHz, radiated immunity field generation to 600 V/m and magnetic field generation to 300 A/m - the 600 V/m figure putting automotive and aerospace high-field immunity work within reach rather than only the 10 and 20 V/m levels of the generic standards. Accreditation and designation cover DAkkS to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 for electromagnetic compatibility and separately under the medical device rules, designation as a Technical Service of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) for vehicle approval, and recognition as a conformity assessment body by the Bundesnetzagentur. With fewer than fifty staff it operates as a specialist rather than a volume house. Specialisations are electromagnetic field and human exposure assessment, high-field immunity testing, automotive component approval, and medical device EMC.

Fellbach-Schmiden, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

hummel electronic, founded in 1975 and based at Fellbach-Schmiden on the north-eastern edge of Stuttgart, is a long-established EMC engineering practice that pairs a compact but comprehensively equipped measurement laboratory with design consultancy. Spectral analysis extends to 40 GHz, which is unusual for a laboratory of this scale and reflects a customer base that includes military and high-frequency work rather than only mains-powered consumer products. The service model is design-led: as well as qualifying a finished device, the firm works on EMC-compliant equipment design from the outset, develops shielding concepts, and designs filters and suppression circuits - so the measurement and the remedy come from the same engineers. An unusual additional line is the construction and verification of screened rooms, including facilities built for protection against unwanted signal emanation, work that sits closer to shielding engineering than to product compliance. Around the EMC work the laboratory runs environmental, climatic, vibration and shock testing with failure analysis, performs measurements on site at customer premises, and handles ecodesign and energy-related product verification alongside CE marking support. The company publishes no ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation certificate, so it is recorded here without an accreditation entry; customers use it principally as a development, diagnosis and pre-compliance resource. Specialisations are EMC-aware product design and shielding engineering, filter and suppression design, screened room construction and verification, and combined EMC and environmental qualification.
