Xi'an High Voltage Apparatus Research Institute Co., Ltd. (XIHARI), founded in 1958, is a major independent third-party laboratory in Xi'an specialising in AC and DC electrical equipment rated up to 1100 kV — circuit breakers, switchgear, GIS, transformers, instrument transformers, surge arresters, insulators, reactors, capacitors, disconnectors, earthing switches, fuses and HVDC converter valves. It hosts several national quality-supervision and test centres (for HV apparatus, transformers/CTQC-STRI, insulators & surge arresters, power capacitors and smart electrical equipment), is a CNAS-accredited testing and calibration laboratory (93 categories of electrical products against 653 standards; 44 categories of instruments) and an IECEE CB test laboratory, operating to ISO/IEC 17025. Its signature facilities include high-power synthetic short-circuit testing to 1100 kV/120 kA, a UHV test hall (78×48×48 m) with power-frequency transformers to 2250 kV and impulse generators to 4800 kV, HVDC thyristor-valve testing to ±1100 kV/7000 A, and new-energy power-electronics test systems (PV inverters, SVC/SVG, converters). Within this power-apparatus context XIHARI operates a dedicated EMC test laboratory and provides EMC equipment calibration, primarily supporting the EMC verification of smart electrical equipment and switchgear controls.
